Nourishing the Body: Ayurvedic Cooking at Mt Jukes Eco Retreat

Food is not just something we eat โ€” it is something that supports us, comforts us, and gives us energy to live fully. At Mt Jukes Eco Retreat, food is part of the experience. It is colourful, delicious, gentle on the body, and made with love.ย As a result, eating becomes a nourishing ritual rather than simply a meal.

What Is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an ancient way of understanding health that comes from India. It is over 5,000 years old, and it teaches something very simple: when we eat balanced food, we feel balanced inside. Instead of counting calories or following strict rules, Ayurveda looks at food through simple questions: is the food warm and comforting? Does it feel good inside the body? Does it help you feel calm, strong and clear?ย Because of this approach, food becomes both medicine and enjoyment.

Ayurvedic cooking uses plenty of fresh vegetables, whole grains, beans, herbs, gentle spices, warm teas, healthy fats like coconut, and a lot of care. It is not just about feeding the stomach โ€” it is about feeding the whole person.

Why Seasonal Food Matters

In addition, Ayurveda encourages us to eat with the seasons.

  • In summer, we enjoy cooling foods such as fruits, salads and fresh herbs.
  • In winter, we enjoy warming foods like curries, soups and stews.
  • In spring, we eat foods that help us feel light and fresh.
  • In autumn, we choose grounding, nourishing meals.ย

In the same way, we do this at Mt Jukes as well.

Eating seasonally helps the body because the land knows what we need. Seasonal food has the right nutrients for that time of year. It tastes better, it is fresher, and it is more sustainable.ย Therefore, nature becomes our menu planner.

Vegan, Delicious & Full of Nourishment

Many guests are surprised when they taste our meals. They often say they feel satisfied, not heavy, and that they do not miss meat at all.ย In fact, our meals are warm, colourful, deeply nourishing, cooked slowly, and easy to digest.

What Makes Our Style Special?

We cook with ingredients from our garden, seasonal fruit from our orchard, herbs and greens grown on our land, water from the sky, and simple whole ingredients. We avoid processed foods, heavy oils, deep-frying, and chemicals or additives. Because of this, everything we cook has a purpose: to nourish the body, to calm the nervous system, to support digestion and to bring joy.

How We Eat at Home โ€” and How We Cook for Guests

This is not a retreat diet. This is simply how we live every day.ย As a result, the experience of food here is relaxed and enjoyable.

We cook slowly.

We enjoy our meals.

We sit down, breathe, and taste.

Food is not rushed. It is a moment of presence.

Most importantly, when guests join us at the table, they often say they feel amazing after eating like this. They do not feel tired after lunch. Their body feels happy.ย That is the magic of Ayurvedic-style food.
