๐ŸŒฟ The Story of Our Fruit Forest: A Living Sanctuary of 350+ Trees

When people arrive at Mt Jukes Eco Retreat, one of the first things they notice is the feeling of abundance. The land feels alive โ€” vibrant, fertile, and filled with quiet energy. Much of this comes from one of our most cherished features: our fruit forest of more than 350 trees, gathered from all around the world.

This forest wasnโ€™t planted overnight. It grew from a vision โ€” a belief that land, when nurtured with care and respect, can become a living sanctuary that feeds both the body and the spirit.

๐ŸŒฟ A Collection of Rare & Exotic Fruit Trees from Around the Globe

Our fruit forest is home to one of the most diverse collections of fruit trees in Queensland. As you wander through it, youโ€™ll discover a rich tapestry of global fruit varieties growing together in harmony.

Among the 350+ trees, youโ€™ll find:

  • Jabuticaba and other Brazilian rainforest fruits
  • African Ice Cream Bean
  • Yellow and Black Sapote (โ€œthe chocolate pudding and caramel fruitsโ€)
  • Rollinia, Soursop, and other custard fruits
  • Lychee, Longan
  • Mango, Papaya, and Banana varieties
  • Citrus groves bursting with scent
  • Starfruit, Guava, Surinam Cherry, and many more

Together, they grow in harmony โ€” a multicultural orchard thriving beneath the Queensland sun. As a result, the diversity here is unlike anything many visitors have seen before.

๐ŸŒฟ How the Fruit Forest Nourishes Our Guests

Our retreats are deeply connected to the land, and the fruit forest plays an important role in this experience. In fact, it offers far more than food.

It offers:

  • Fresh fruit for our farm-to-plate lunches
  • Ingredients for teas, jams, snacks
  • A peaceful space to wander and reconnect
  • Moments of wonder โ€” guests discovering fruits they have never seen before

Many people tell us they havenโ€™t tasted fruit this fresh, alive, and flavourful since childhood.
There is something profoundly grounding about eating food straight from the tree that grew it.

Moreover, guests often say this simple act shifts their entire retreat experience.

๐ŸŒฟ A Forest That Gives Back

As the orchard continues to mature, we plan to share our abundance with the community โ€” especially with local womenโ€™s shelters and organisations supporting those in need.

A fruit forest is not just a garden.
It is generosity, in physical form.

๐ŸŒฟ An Invitation to Wander

If you join us for a Day Retreat or Weekend Escape, we invite you to wander slowly through the orchard.
Touch the leaves.
Smell the flowers.
Taste something new.
Let the land speak to you in its quiet, abundant way.

Our fruit forest is more than a collection of trees.
It is a sanctuary, a story, and a reminder of the natural abundance that surrounds us all.

๐ŸŒฟ Our Mt Jukes Fruit Tree Guide: A Companion for Your Walk

To help guests connect even more deeply with the land, we created a Mt Jukes Fruit Tree Guide โ€” a beautifully designed booklet that maps and explains every tree in our orchard.

In addition, each tree is numbered throughout the property, allowing you to wander at your own pace and learn as you go.

With the booklet in hand, you can discover:

  • Where each tree originated โ€” from South America to Asia to the Pacific
  • How the fruit is traditionally used in cooking and herbal practices
  • Which parts of the plant are edible โ€” fruit, leaves, flowers, or bark
  • Nutritional and medicinal insights drawn from global traditions

Guests often tell us the guide transforms their walk into a meaningful experience.
Instead of simply passing by the trees, they begin to see them as living stories โ€” each one carrying a history, a culture, and a purpose.

Furthermore, the fruit forest becomes a place of learning, curiosity, and inspiration.

The booklet is not just informational โ€” it is an invitation to slow down, observe, and appreciate natureโ€™s extraordinary diversity.
